Books & Podcasts
Things worth spending time with.
I believe taking care of ourselves involves more than what happens on a massage table or a yoga mat.
The things we read, listen to, question, and think about can shape the way we understand our bodies, our relationships, and the lives we're creating.
This is a collection of books and podcasts that have made me think, challenged something I believed, introduced me to a new perspective, or simply stayed with me.
A recommendation doesn't mean I agree with every idea presented. Think of this less as a required reading list and more as a shelf I'm sharing with you.

Body & Mind
What My Bones Know
Stephanie Foo
A deeply personal memoir exploring complex trauma, healing, and the author's attempts to understand how her past has shaped her present. I appreciate the way Foo combines her own experience with curiosity about the many different ways people approach healing.
Molecules of Emotion
Candace B. Pert
An exploration of the relationship between the body, emotions, and the science of mind-body communication. This is an older book, and some of its ideas should be considered in the context of when it was written, but it offers an interesting perspective on the connections between our physical and emotional experiences.
Charge and the Energy Body
Anodea Judith
A different lens for exploring the relationship between the body, energy, emotions, and patterns of behavior. I approach this one more as a framework for reflection and self-exploration than as a scientific explanation of how the body works.
The Yamas & Niyamas
Deborah Adele
An approachable exploration of the ethical principles of yoga and what they can look like when applied to everyday life. I especially appreciate that it takes yoga beyond physical postures and invites reflection on how we relate to ourselves and other people.
Yoga & Philosophy
How Yoga Works
Geshe Michael Roach
A story-based introduction to yoga philosophy that explores the ideas behind the practice rather than focusing only on physical movement. It's a reminder that yoga can influence how we think, behave, and move through the world—not only what happens on the mat.
The Essential Yoga Sutra
Geshe Michael Roach & Christie McNally
An accessible exploration of the Yoga Sutras and some of the philosophical foundations behind yoga. A useful resource for anyone interested in understanding yoga beyond asana.
Everyday Life
One and Only
Lauren Sandler
An exploration of only-child families and many of the assumptions our culture holds about growing up without siblings. It offers an interesting mix of research, cultural observations, and personal experience that invites you to question some very persistent stereotypes.
Think Like a Monk
Jay Shetty
A practical introduction to ideas inspired by Shetty's experience as a monk, with reflections on purpose, habits, relationships, gratitude, and the way we relate to our own thoughts.
Soul Boom
Rainn Wilson
A funny and thoughtful exploration of spirituality, meaning, connection, and what our inner lives might have to offer in a complicated world. I appreciate its willingness to talk about spirituality without requiring one particular religious framework.
Raising Good Humans
Hunter Clarke-Fields
A mindfulness-based approach to parenting that focuses not only on children's behavior, but on the parent's own reactions, patterns, and ability to respond with greater awareness.
The Four Agreements
Don Miguel Ruiz
A short, accessible book built around four principles for approaching our thoughts, words, relationships, and assumptions differently. I appreciate it as a simple framework for noticing some of the patterns we carry through everyday life.
Simple Abundance
Sarah Ban Breathnach
Simple Abundance is an invitation to slow down, notice what is already here, and find more meaning in the ordinary moments of life. Through short daily reflections, Sarah Ban Breathnach explores gratitude, authenticity, simplicity, creativity, and the process of reconnecting with yourself. It’s a book to return to a little at a time—a gentle reminder that a rich, fulfilling life doesn’t always come from adding more, but from becoming more present to what we already have.
Maintenance Phase
Aubrey Gordon & Michael Hobbes
A podcast examining wellness culture, diet culture, weight, health trends, and the claims we often accept without questioning. I appreciate the invitation to look more critically at the messages we're given about health and bodies and to ask where those ideas actually come from.
Society & Culture
From my shelf to yours.
I'll continue adding to this collection as I find books, conversations, and ideas that stay with me.
You don't have to agree with everything you read or listen to for it to be useful. Sometimes the most valuable resources are the ones that make us stop, question something, or see an idea from a perspective we hadn't considered before.
